Words do hurt!
“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt.” Unfortunately, words do hurt; though they may not physically damage a person, they can damage our heart and soul. Proverbs says, ” The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Proverbs 18:21 NIV) While the NLT states,” Those who love to talk will experience the consequences, for the tongue can kill or nourish life.” This scripture emphasizes the fact that words can nourish someone’s life or destroy it. Thus, unkind and un-affirming words have caused some people to gravel through life, trying to overcome false accusations or harsh words. It can be an arduous process to undo what was said, and scars can linger and take years to repair. It can produce a downward spiral as we try to crawl out of a dark place to regain our identity and purpose.
How can a person rebuild after being defeated by damaging words? The power of God is potent, and His word triumphs all remedies and cures known to man. God’s healing principles provide the best solution to becoming free from the unfavorable effects
of negative words. A few biblical principles include forgiveness, denouncing the words, and allowing God’s word to rebuild your identity in the area where someone attempted to tear you down.
As we meditate on scriptures and pray, we get stronger and feel confident and worthy. When we apply the word and begin to ask God to allow His love and restoring power to undo the damage, we can walk in victory. God’s word is food to our soul, and it
can overcome any hurtful words. The words that cause the greatest pain can become the place we help others overcome their anguish. When true healing occurs, we become wounded healers and not bleeding victims! Grace to you, and I pray that my blog is an encouragement to your soul.
